Salmonella anxiety, your thoughts please!

As I've mentioned before, I am borderline OCD and have trouble with preparing chicken - I do it a lot but have to wash my hands about 20 times afterwards with scalding water and am obsessive about any knife, chopping board or whatever going straight into the dishwasher etc etc., and I definitely feel myself getting more and more anxious. It's to do with the worry of making other people (particularly the children) ill, and the responsibilty of it.

Anyway - last night MIL prepared the chicken; she's pretty casual, rinsed the chicken off (chickeny water splashing all over the places, db's dummies lying around nearby etc), threw bits of raw chicken into the sink. She wiped the surfaces with a dishcloth afterwards which she just let db play with at lunchtime. He didn't (I think) put in his mouth, though he tried to, but he was holding it and then obviously feeding himself bits of pasta with his fingers. As soon as I noticed she'd given him the cloth I took it away, of course, and MIL washed his hands (with a damp cloth).

How worried would you be that he would get ill? I know I can't change it now anyway, but it's making me feel really anxious.

Don't be-chances are infinitesimal.
I don't wash anything though-why bother as the cooking will kill germs. More dodgy to splash water about (even thoguh still, chances of salmonella poisoning are tiny).

Thank you - infinitesimal chances are good! I never wash meat either but MIL always does and splashes around like a lunatic, which I find very challenging! Odd because she's really careful usually, as well as a terrible worrier about everything.

I think she thinks she's washing the salmonella off though, when she washes chicken!
