Bring a dish, not feeling inspired

Have one of those get-togethers where you have to bring a main dish and a dessert. For dessert I always just make a cake so that's ok but have no idea what to bring for a main meal. Has to be easy, not too exotic and preferably something that doesn't have to be served hot.

Does anyone have a stand-by they could recommend?

Home made pie or quiche?

dizzydixies · 02/04/2010 17:17

marzetti pasta dish? easy as and tastes delicious - not for the calorie conscious or fine dining crew though

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:18

hadn't thought of quiche. Would pie be alright cold?

will investigate if I have a decent recipe ..

not fine dining, you know those things where everyone plonks food down and then you have a help-yourself buffet, get plastered and dance type of thing.

wish I#d married a chef sometimes, number of times I have to come up with meals and I just loathe cooking...

mustn't grumble. Pasta would be ok but cold?

Quiche would be better than pie cold I think.

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:21

wondering about pretending I misunderstood and just taking two cakes..

Or some sort of frittata/spanish omlette.

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:22

ooh I do have a nice spanish omelette recipe somewhere.

no, its not great cold but if you transported it in the baking dish it might still be warm when you got there - unless you've far to go?

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:25

It's a half hour drive but if everyone sits down to eat straight away, I don't know.

god, who am I trying to kid, we eat it cold with a spoon from the dish for days after

tethersend · 02/04/2010 17:31

Well, if we're talking inappropriate things eaten cold, I dip cold yorkshire puds into cold gravy. Deeelish.

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:31

LOL
Thanks girls, I should be able to sort out something. Overcome-my-laziness emoticon

well they did say I should bring a national dish come to think of it...

Not that I ever bother faffing about trying to find something Czechs might want to eat

What about a cold potato salad type dish with chorizo maybe?

ZZZenAgain · 02/04/2010 17:39

wubblybubbly · 02/04/2010 17:49

Moussaka is usually served at room temperature, but I think I'd go for the tortilla a la tethersend.
