Hello can anyone tell me which cabbage makes the nicest coleslaw please? Also should I use mayo, creme freche or yogurt. There are so many recipes Im not sure which to go for.

I like crunchy white cabbage and mayo mixed with home-made salad dressing.

White and red cabbage with Mayo and a handful of peanuts/sultanas.

White cabbage, grated carrot, thinly sliced red onion add some salt and pepper and a dollop of mayo. Yum I made this last night

I make this all the time and its yum..

White cabbage, thinly stredded using a knife
grated carrott

In a bowl put the following
Celery salt I sometimes put onion salt in it
teaspoon of white wine vinegar or to taste
dijon mustard to taste
mayo
salt and pepper
sugar to taste

I like mine quite wet so I make a fair bit then pour over the cabbage and carott, you can put a small amount of red onion if you like that.

Noooooooooooooo not peanuts/sultanas! Eurgh!

White and red cabbage, onion, carrot, mayo. DONE.

KAEKAE · 02/04/2010 21:40

Just adding mayo as a dressing is not real coleslaw! lol.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/04/2010 21:42

As Monty but then I get poncy and make my own mayo.

ClaireDeLoon · 02/04/2010 21:43

Surely it needs a bite to it, not just mayo? Kaeke's recipe is like the one i use, I just don;t use celery salt.

Monty100 · 02/04/2010 22:14

Onion is quite pokey though, and white cabbage is quite pungent. Sprinkle of chilli/paprika might spice it up a bit.

Hat off to FGMID's own mayo.

AvadaKedavra · 02/04/2010 22:17

I make this one minus the red peppers though, and it is delicious

AvadaKedavra · 02/04/2010 22:17

oh and use olive oil, and less than they say there ^

schroeder · 02/04/2010 22:22

White or red cabbage, carrot little bit of onion + mayonaise. Please amke it how you like it, but I really would not add sultanas or peanuts.
Maybe celery though?

meltedmarsbars · 03/04/2010 10:04

Never mayo - always salad cream!

Or sometimes vinaigrette.

OzMama22 · 05/04/2010 10:07

I modified a dressing out of a low-carb cookbook and won't use anything else now...
approx. 1/2cup bought mayo, 1tsp dijon mustard and dash of apple cider vinegar to get it bit more runny. I cheat and use the pre-chopped dry slaw mix...
