birdsandblossoms, the Glasgow one is on Byres Road

I am making notes here - brilliant thread

I've avoided our new one since it opened just before christmas because I knew I would spend all my money

I might go in looking for a few specific things now though...

But be prepared for all the spices and other infgredients to have wince-inducing labels - "A Sprinkle of Angelsey Sea Salt" "A Spoonful of Baking Powder" "A Pinch of Chilli Powder"... and so on until you want to shoot someone.

ronx · 30/03/2010 19:55

Oooh - and their individually frozen pesto portions. Genius!

ampster · 30/03/2010 20:12

Love this thread!

Thanks for the fresh-frozen herbs suggestion, whoever it was, the curry on the hob is smelling very good

yay for no more brown herbs in the fridge

sunchild77 · 30/03/2010 20:17

When I got my new kitchen I binned loads of stuff so that I could fill my cupboards with that stuff !!

Finbar · 30/03/2010 20:43

I am not a regular coffee drinker...BUT their Monsooned Malabar coffee is the best tasting ever.

FabIsGettingThere · 30/03/2010 20:45

marking my place

waitrose shop tomorrow

Finbar · 30/03/2010 20:48

Ohh and their eggs in packs of NINE - better than a half dozen. Just right.

janeite · 30/03/2010 20:52

I love the wince-inducing labels too!

More:

At Christmas, Duchy Christmas pudding is the nicest available imho. We had a Waitrose own last year to economise and it was okay but not a patch on Duchy.

They do a nice light rye bread.

Our branch has loads of cheapo spices, lentils, chickpeas etc which are great. I can't remember the brand but it's not Waitrose.

Haven't been in for over a month (have been economising) but will have a trip over Easter to try out some of the things on this thread! Am intrigued by frozen pesto portions...

Molesworth · 30/03/2010 21:27

Oh yes, the labels!

"Don't forget the muffin cases"

Cadelaide · 30/03/2010 21:55

OK, last chance to top up my trolley...

ordinary sausages, no fancy ingredients...best ones please?

Molesworth · 30/03/2010 22:05

The Duchy ones are a bit ££ but lovely. Or the Rankin ones are nice, or there is an offer on Waitrose's own at the moment (2 packs for £4.50 I think)

hogshead · 30/03/2010 22:09

sorry if i duplicate anything but i like the baby bottom butter (one for DS, one for me!) and the corn fed chicken with cracked pepper (absolutely fab). Their BBQ range is good in the summer too - good burgers, kebabs and pork ribs

AClosedMouthGathersNoFoot · 30/03/2010 22:37

You need the #5 or #6 essentials cheddar, it's strong and slightly crumbly, not rubbery.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/03/2010 10:56

We have the free range Hampshire breed sausages - they come either as a normal sausage or a chipolata and they are delicious. V. reasonable aswell if you compare them with how much Sainsbury's etc charge for free range as opposed to standard.

Cadelaide · 31/03/2010 18:20

I only spent 80-odd quid.

How can that be so?

My basket was heaving with rare meats and the like.

I went today and spent £125 and got loads and loads of shopping. It isn't as ££££ as people think when buying regular things.

seeker · 31/03/2010 21:05

I went today - but the labels are definitely getting worse - "Go Fasy on the Harissa Paste" "Be Generous with the Coconut Milk" - aggggghhhhhhhhh!

flier · 31/03/2010 21:14

There's not just one in Scotland, now one in Glasgow's West End.
