Is it half a cup of rice per person and a cup of water? About to cook lunch for a friend and I have no idea anymore!

Yes, according to delia, twice as much water as rice, cook covered until the water has all absorbed. You might not need 1/2 a cup of rice per person tho' (I ALWAYS cook too much rice)

Ken Holm

Suggests fill the saucepan with water to an inch above the rice.
Bring to the boil, without a lid.
Then turn off the hob, put lid on and leave saucepan sitting on warm hob for 20minutes. DO NOT lift the lid in this time.

WOrks a treat for me! before i read that i could never cook rice!

Sorry doesn't help at all with your measurement request

Thats what I was trying to do actually - but it didn't work still had water left so had to heat again. Did have a sneaky peek though so is obviously all my own fault

Hi, if you are cooking basmati rice the easiest way to cook it is this.
One cup of rice to one and a half cups of water. Put it in a microwaveable bowl and put it in the microwave for 18 mins.
Should come out nice and fluffy.
