Very very very very limited diet - help!

Ok so am vegetarian so no meat or fish.

I dont like spicy food or nuts.

I cant eat ANY cheese or pasta because whilst Im pregnant for some reason it gives me horrendous stomach pains.

I am avoiding the usual not allowed in pregnancy things quite strictly as am paranoid.

I am soooooooooo bored of eating potatoes and bread and thats pretty much it (aside from fruit etc obv) - can you help inspire me?

I would happily live on salads but what can I have that fit all the requirements above that isnt just lettuce, tomatoes, onion and erm - what else?

Would really appreciate any help...

Lentil soup?
Roast veg and rice?

As a snack, pear dipped in houmous is weirdly delicious.

Hi, I became a vegetariarian at 16, and stayed so for 15 yrs, probably not what you will want to hear but I started back on meat before becoming pregnant! Now I realise that I was hungry for 15 years.

To answer your question, I suppose it's beans and lentils, assuming you have the time. I decided to approach my issues with meat by eating only organic (actually less expensive than the stuff in the supermarket cause I live in the sticks and rely on a german farmer) so I ate plenty of vension stew while pregnant. I have a fast system and I know I needed meat to produce a whole new human being. I also started to eat fish, chicken again.

You could try Indian cooking, pick up a good cookbook.

You need tofu, but more than 2/3 amounts of soya are linked to brain degenerate disorders in later life.

It's really hard, people eat too much meat these days, I had the best of intentions but looking back, I held myself back in college by simply being hungry.

You could try Hijiki, a Japanese sea vegetable, full of iron, etc I'm having it for dins today. It's really good for you skin and hair also!

coldtits · 11/03/2010 18:58

you need a decent vegan cookbook. vegan with a vengeance is good

any pasta could be swapped for rice or other grains (pearl barley, quinoa etc) or for rice or buckwheat noodles

i think nuts are incredibly important for a healthy veggie/vegan diet, so if i were you i think i'd be experimenting to see if therre are any i like/tolerate, or different ways of eating them
ie, i make pesto with walnuts in instead of pine nuts (and no cheese) and it's really delicious. i love it spread on toast with humous and tomato, or over pasta, or on a vegan pizza

beans are pulses are your friends!add them to soups and stews. aldo tofu- good source of both protein and calcium
