We're having friends for dinner and all having sushi.
Not sure what to do/buy for dessert, any ideas?

How about some fresh fruit with an 'exotic'theme? Fresh lychees, rambutans, star fruiy, chinese gooseberries etc?

something substantial - Jam roly poly or a nice suet pudding. with custard.

Pistachio or other ice cream and fresh fruit.

an expansive platter of fruit and a bitter chocolate tart.

Thanks I really really liked the exotic fruit idea (and the bitter chocolate tart!!) and wished I'd had more time to go out and buy them but our guest came over very early.
We went for some japanese ice cream in rice paper I think the flavours were green tea, red bean and jasmin that we bought from the sushi shop (it was err, different ) and some very cute little japanese biscuits.
We also had some "fancy" juice (papaya-mango pomegranate etc), japanese beer, and some korean aloe vera drink which was great :D

I made spinach with garlic, onion and soya sauce to go with as well as some sliced cucumber marinated in japanese rice vinegar and sugar (idea taken from another thread).
All in all great success :D

bythesea where do you get pistachio ice cream from? I really like it but can never find it in regular supermarkets, the green stuff is always mint.

eccentric I'm always up for anything covered in custard but in hindsight I think it would have been too much, we were stuffed!
