Do you like macaroni cheese?

Because, and I admit this may be odd, I've never actually tasted it. It was something my mother frowned upon when we were growing up.

But DP likes it.

So I thought I would try making some. Does anyone have a nice recipe?

Oh the posh version. Dh and I have that with chicken, bacon and sometimes leeks too.

meltedmarsbars · 01/03/2010 21:07

Morrisons have the best macaroni - tiny curly bits, not the thick straight ones you
get elsewhere. I'm talking dried pasta here, not gloop in tins!

OhFuck · 01/03/2010 21:10

It's possibly my favourite comfort food ever.

But my mum's is the best - I can't come close to matching its awesomeness. The only version I've had that even comes close is from the greasy spoon bakery up the road, it comes in a huge polystyrene tray with a plastic fork and on a cold day it's AMAZING.

OhFuck · 01/03/2010 21:11

It has to be Marshalls pasta though, IMO. [[http://www.marshallsfoods.com/products/marshalls-macaroni.php MMMMMM}}

OhFuck · 01/03/2010 21:12

[sigh]

LetThereBeRock · 01/03/2010 21:14

I love it. I particuarly love my mother's which has pancetta and onion through it,and which is usually made with fresh penne rather than macaroni, and plenty of mustard.

LadyBlaBlah · 01/03/2010 21:15

Nice with vinegar added before serving. Tis true.

Rocinante · 01/03/2010 21:22

I love it - DH likes the Nigella version with a bit of mustard or cayenne pepper in the sauce to give it a bit of bite

I literally cannot contain my excitement at the dayglo orange Kraft macaroni cheese dinner (to give it its correct title) being available here. It's the crack cocaine of instant pasta-based dishes.

In Ocado

Joy!

MMMMMM for OhFuck

Why that particular brand though?

nom nom nom nom

We all luuuuurve it

only thing is you have to not watch as you grate the best part of a whole packet of strong cheddar into the sauce

...having it with a heap of brocolli makes me feel slightly better about it though

and half a pound of Branston pickle

deaddei · 01/03/2010 21:34

My mother wouldn't give us baked beans because they were common.
I didn't have them till I went to Uni.
I hate macaroni cheese, which obviously didn't upset mother's moral compass- it's the sauce I don't like and the general lack of colour.

OhFuck · 01/03/2010 21:34

Oh thank you Claire!

It's what we always had when I was little and the only brand I will put in my macaroni now. It's just the best shape and texture. If I can't get it we don't have it!

SparklyJules · 01/03/2010 21:39

LOVE it!!

I used to refuse all food apart from this and cheese and onion crisps when I was a nipper. Drove my mum demented!

Has to be made with Marshalls macaroni for me or it just doesn't taste right!

RE: Kraft - we used to take that on Duke of Edinburgh camping trips back in the day, although I'm sure it was in a red box back then. We'd knock it up on our Trangia stoves and it would be full of midgies by the time it was ready.

OhFuck · 01/03/2010 21:43

Sparkly, glad it's not just me with the Marshalls then

SparklyJules · 01/03/2010 22:17

A kindred Marshalls lover! It's the only way to do macaroni justice!

LetThereBeRock · 01/03/2010 22:49

I agree if you're going to use macaroni it has to be Marshalls.

shockers · 01/03/2010 22:59

I know what we're having tomorrow
