how would you go about making a Peppa Pig cake?

Seems to me the best approach is to make a flat peppa cake. I plan to make a big rectangular sponge, then trace a cut out of peppa on top and ice it in different colours of pink butter icing (I suspect royal icing would look better but her ladyship prefers butter). Am wondering how to define the mouth, nostrils etc though if I'm doing butter. any suggestions very welcome

I think I would make a normal cake with butter icing etc and then stick on Peppa Pig characters!

no she must be peppa shaped (ds had a Postman Pat van shaped cake last year, have set myself a challenge)

wow

If it HAS to be butter icing on the top, I would probably go for strawberry laces, jelly tots, licorice etc for the details. I assume using 'writing icing' isn't acceptable?

EasyEggs · 01/03/2010 20:07

Sorry no idea how to make one but there are a few Peppa cakes HERE if you want to try them?

I too have a Peppa mad DD!

Olihan · 01/03/2010 20:17

Peppa Pig's house? I know it's not Peppa shaped but it's along the lines of Pat's van!

I made that one for ds2's birthday and it's dead easy so if you want instructions, just ask .

oooh I made on for my daughter last year - made sponge cakes then cut them and put them together in a peppa pig shape with an icing balloon....I have a pic of it somewhere.....was fab

frazzledoldbag · 01/03/2010 20:40

oh and I used ready rolled out royal icing (white) to cover it then 'painted' it with a paintbrush and red food colouring. Used liquorice strings to define nostrils etc, eyes and for the string of her balloon. My DD who was 2 at the time LOVED it.

I made one for dd's 3rd birthday I made a square cake then cut out the face shape. Dh iced it with butter icing and I did the details.

Pics on profile

Have put a pic on my profile page for you. Eyes were made from those 'flying saucer' paper sherbert things. Was actually much easier than it looks. I drew the shape to cut out of the cakes that i'd made on greaseproof paper then just cut round it with a sharp knife. Think I made about 3 large square cakes as a basis. Good luck!

I made a peppa cake for DD1 last year, I made the hill and the house with fondant peppa family
Should be a picture on my profile.

i cheated , i bought one from asda for £6 ! .

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 01/03/2010 21:33

I made two large round cakes, and cut them to make a peppa pig head shape, covered the shape with pink butter cream icing (easier IMO!) and then used an icing bag with black icing in to do the outline, eyes, mouth etc. I put white icing (just icing sugar and water, can't remember the name of that sort!) inside the black ovals I'd done for the eyes before I put the 'pupils' on. Um...that's it. It was very easy!

Ewe · 01/03/2010 21:42

I am doing this too! DD is 2 in a couple of weeks, dreading it tbh, good to know there is an asda back up option

Bumperlicious · 01/03/2010 21:57

You can get icing 'pens' (like tubes of toothpaste really) from the supermarket, which is what I used for the detail. I did a round cake and one using a loaf tin to cut out the snout. And it's GOT to be butter icing - yum!

deaconblue · 02/03/2010 13:21

these look fab, you've inspired me

Help! - how do i look at the profile pics of peppa cakes!? can't seem to click on 'posters' names or see any links ... party tomorrow - paniiic!

deaconblue · 25/06/2010 12:03

I made a large flat peppa cake by baking an 8 egg victoria sponge recipe in my roasting tin. Photocopied a picture of peppa from the internet, enlarged it to A3 size and cut round the shape. Iced peppa with two colours of pink butter cream and used round liquorice alsorts for her eyes. will see if I can upload a photo for you
