Why have my scones not risen??!!

I made sure they were an inch thick when I cut them but they have just spread outward rather than upwards! Where id I go wrong??

Sounds like they might hvae been a bit too liquid.
Did you use self raising?
Did you double any of the ingredients to make a double bacth and then forget and only put in half as much for the other ingredients

Yes it was self raising flour. Only used enough ingedients for one batch although it did feel very wet, so maybe less milk??

It is normally a sticky mixture but shouldn't be too wet.
Oven temp okay? They should take about 10-15 mins max.

I use 8oz self raising, 2oz butter, 1oz sugar and 5fl oz milk if that helps at all.

The really important question is, do they taste ok? I'd still eat them anyway A scone is a scone, even a mishapen one!

Add 1 teaspooon of Cream of Tartar with the flour. Heat oven really well. I agree mixture not too wet. Good lucK!
