How do you pronounce Bruschetta?

Please can you help me settle a small, friendly, disagreement between dh and myself.

I say that it's pronounced Broosketta as that was what I was told when I worked in a restaurant.

Dh, who also worked in a restaurant was told it was pronounced Brooshetta.

So, which is it? It's over to you mumsnet

Another one for Brooshetta.

I have a friend who is fluent in Italian, I'll ask her & report back.

MarshaBrady · 27/02/2010 12:11

I used to work with an italian who said 'broo-sketta', BUT I have a feeling it might be one of those words that could be either, depending on where you are from.

duchesse · 27/02/2010 12:12

Broo-sketta. ch is pronounced k in Italian, it does the same job as qu in French

Linnet · 27/02/2010 19:45

Thank you very much. I shall now go boast about the fact that I am right which of course I knew all along.

Oops read the thread title and thought in horror that this was a baby names thread...

IMO Broosketta is much nicer than Brooshetta for a little girl

Ponymum · 27/02/2010 20:56

DH once wrote to the BBC complaining that they kept saying "brooshetta" on Masterchef. Shortly after this they started pronouncing it correctly!

ShirleyAmbrose · 27/02/2010 20:58

It know that the correct pronunciation is 'broosketta' but I always call it 'brooshetta'.

I say 'Cor-itz-oh' instead of 'choreetho' for chorizo, too.

Bloody English people, eh?

florence2511 · 27/02/2010 21:20

chi in Italian is pronounced key and che is pronounced keh

so, Bruchetta is pronounced Broosketta.

When I pronounce it properly the waiting staff look at me like I'm a dumb-arse!!
