what sauce to serve with beef meatballs?

They are plain beef meatballs - very good quality meat - with a little coriander in them.

I'll serve them with basmati rice so would like to avoid 'spaghetti and meatball' style sauce. What would go nicely with this dish? Any recipes for sauces?

Thanks.

what about a tomato and chilli? Or is that too close to spag/meatballs type sauce?

Why do you want to avoid a tomato based sauce?

A tomato sauce will go well with basmati rice.

A curry sauce would just take away from the quality of the meetballs and mask the taste so I'd avoid that.

What about an onion gravy like you'd make for bangers and mash? Sautee lots of red onions till they're soft, add a teaspoon of sugar and salt and pepper, then stir in a tavblespoon of flour and then a pint of stock and some soy sauce and worcestershire sauce. And some marigold powder if you have any or gravy granules.

How about instead of a sauce you serve them with biriyani rice?

Or you make carrot rice to serve it with and have mango chutney, ketchup and other dips to serve it with?
