I bought some ready made stuff a few weeks ago, when I got it home it was 6 months out of date. Used it.. It was fine.

Did you make your own? How do you do it??

oh thanks ever so much for posting peggy
175g/6oz choc(milk,plain or white)
45ml/3tbsp liquid glucose/golden syrup
melt choc with liquid glucose/golden syrup
as soon as it melts remove from heat and beat the mixture until it leaves the sides of the bowl clean.knead briefly and shape into a ball.cover and chill in the fridge for about 30mins or until firm.
it works a treat as i'm v.reliant on online sites for my sugar paste etc which is a pita
think we should start up a cake dec thread tbh as the previous one on here seems to have sadly died a death

and maybe you could help me some more too. do a little bit of cake decorating myself, mostly self taught, but would like to improve my skills. Can you recommend a basic book to me please??

aseriouslyblondemoment · 23/02/2010 10:46

sorry didn't see your post til now
all my books are pretty ancient as were handed onto me but they contain the basics
i also read 'cakes & sugarcraft'
but like you alot of it is self taught and just pottering in the kitchen isn't it?!
hopefully someone will come along with a few recommendations
