Anyone know how to make home made baked beans? My kids eat them constantly and would like to make them.

Also, any ideas about storing?

TIA

Recipe:

  • open tin
  • pour contents into microwaveable container
  • heat
  • eat

(steps 2 and 3 optional)

Store tin in cupboard forever.

i;ve made them using dried haricot beans, i basically followed the instructions on the back of the bag

soak beans over night, then simmer them for an hour, drain and mix with some tomato purée, maple syrup and some fried onions and veg stock

cannot remember quantities. then you cook it slowly on a low heat for several hours

you can freeze them

1lb bag dried haricot beans, soaked overnight in plenty water
1 onion, chopped
1 carton passata
2tbspns treacle
2tblspns brown sugar
1tspn mustard
shake worcester sauce
squirt tomato ketchup
salt and pepper to taste.

Drain beans and rinse well. Put in a big pan with the chopped onion and a splash of oil. Cover to the depth of about 1inch with clean water. Bring to the boil and boil rapidly for 10 mins. Reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours until the beans are soft. Mix everything else into the beans and pour into a casserole dish. Cover and bake at 130 all afternoon. Keep an eye on the amount of liquid, you can add a little hot water if it begins to dry out. You can add a couple of rashers of chopped bacon with the tomatoes, if you like.

These will keep covered in the fridge for 3 days.
