Kids Innocent Smoothies question

Holymoly321 · 08/02/2010 16:40

Took some of these out with us on Saturday, just found four unopened cartons of them in the car boot. Would they still be ok to drink as it's been quite cold out? Or is it a case of out of the fridge into the bin?

fine to drink

LynetteScavo · 08/02/2010 16:46

Well, now I'm not convinced these need to be kept in the fridge, even though it says the should on the packet.

The weather isn't hot though, so I'd say they'd be fine

LynetteScavo · 08/02/2010 16:46

You could phone fruit towers, or whatever to ask.

Holymoly321 · 08/02/2010 16:48

just don't want to waste them as they are so blooming expensive and one of the only ways to get fruit down DS's necks!

I am really sure they'd be fine. Have found stray ones unopened in DS1's lunchbox that have been out of the fridge for 13 or 14 hours and at room temperature (not car boot temp) and they've not posioned anyone.

overmydeadbody · 08/02/2010 18:17

They will be fine. It's cold outside.

woodyandbuzz · 08/02/2010 18:21

I would think they would be fine, but I wouldn't feed them to a child under 18 months if they had been in the car a couple of days. (18 months is not any sort of guideline, just my gut feeling).

overmydeadbody · 08/02/2010 18:25

the thing is, it's pointless asking what we would do theoretically. You will be able to tell if they have gone off. Your kids would be able to tell if they had gone off. The pouches would also likely to be swollen. Trust your senses more, they have kept us alive for millions of years...

whooosh · 09/02/2010 10:05

They will be fine-they are not actually a chilled product-they can be kept in an ordinary cupboard-not a fridge. All a bit of a marketing con I am afraid.

RoseWater · 09/02/2010 19:11

Car is probably as cold as a fridge in this weather - should be fine

IlanaK · 09/02/2010 19:17

Are they really not a chilled product?? I once made my mum throw out two cartons of the things she had bought for the kids when she didn't realise they were supposed to go in the fridge and kept them in her dining room for a couple of days.

woodyandbuzz · 10/02/2010 11:45

whooosh! I have also thrown ones away that have got left out for a couple of days. My mum does the same and she hates any sort of waste, but worried that she would poison my kids!

NormaSnorks · 11/02/2010 12:00

DH & I always apply our 'common sense' rules to this sort of situation:

  • is it green? (i.e. mouldy)
  • does it smell? (bad..)
  • has it 'blown' (the expanding thing chilled stuff does when it begins to go off)

We're all still alive

Also if it is has started to ferment you will see the bottle will look like it's about to explode, you can taste it first and if it has a fizzy taste it's fermenting otherwise it will be fine. LOVE Innocent so does my son, I'm sure they are fine.
