I want to make these as a starter for a dinner party, but my friend is coeliac and I can't find anything on the web to suggest what I can use to coat them ,instead of breadcrumbs. TIA

Cornmeal/ polenta should do the trick.

Orgran 'All purpose crumbs' are made of rice and are available in the Free From section of most supermarkets. They don't go such a nice colour as normal breadcrumbs but they do the job!

They're on this page.

Thanks for that . I definately don't want to poison my friend. not a good advert formy cooking.
I had pondered over the polenta, just was unsre of the finish it would give.
I have not seen the Orgran, crumbs in Sainsbury's , but will scour the free from section again.

A friend of mine uses crushed cornflakes for her DD who is coeliac

I just buy a loaf of GF bread and whizz it in the blender, breadcrumbs can be kept in the freezer and used from frozen, so just do a whole loaf every now and again and stick it in the freezer in a freezer bag.

PS I add a teaspoon of turmeric for the colour!

Ooh thanks for that tip. My friend came round earlier and she said if I need any GF stuff when I do the dinner party just to tell her as she gets lots on her prescription.
