Where can I find a small realistic beaver?

DS wants a beaver cake. I was thinking of making a rectangle and decorating with green and blue icing to make a riverside scene with a lodge/dam made from chocolate fingers.
I really need a beaver or it will just end up as a rectangle of lurid icing with biscuits on top. Any ideas? Sulvanian families have a beaver but they are too cutsie/cartoonish.

Schleich do a brilliant range of realistic animals.

They have them in our local independant toy shop.

Flightattendant · 06/02/2010 18:24

Or you could use a hamster...bit of brown paint...nobody will guess

Most Church halls on a Thursday.

skymoo · 06/02/2010 18:30

here's one

beaver

I know it's a US site but it's just to show you they do one

cilitbang · 06/02/2010 18:32

you can get everything on ebay these days

TheElephant · 06/02/2010 18:34

has NO ONE been smutty yet?

cilitbang · 06/02/2010 18:37

TheElephant...just what I was thinking.
Aoyama - just wondering - how old is DS? If he's a teenager it might be an in joke with his pals?

MaHumbug · 06/02/2010 18:37

Oh Elephant - I can remember my friend saying to her partner that another bloke had made a crude remark about her badger

Flightattendant · 06/02/2010 18:40

i was actually wondering what it was doing in 'food'

I thought for one painful moment someone had requested a beaver to EAT.

Maleeka · 06/02/2010 18:40

Tooo.....many.....innuendoes.....

Could you model a beaver out of fondant icing?

aoyama · 06/02/2010 19:33

Thankyou all. I will try and track down the schleich one. Its not on their website but at least it exists somewhere. I am staggered impressed at the lack of smut. Ds is 5 and has had an interest in beavers for at least 2 years. I am so used to beaver talk that I can have a completely straight face but not everyone has had my training .

Best thread title ever.

Flightattendant · 06/02/2010 19:39

Oh I am sorry,

i assumed they did everything, I have just checked my catalogue and there is sadly no beaver in it. It is last year;s though.

They do a moose...any good?

Flightattendant · 06/02/2010 19:41

I eman you could have the moose sort of standing there, looking wistfully at the dam, hoping to catch the other beaver, and a sort of trail of blood from the one he has just eaten...iyswim.

realism is what you wanted no?

onepieceoflollipop · 06/02/2010 19:43

I know this is a Very Serious thread but it has made my night.

Best of luck to the op with making a scrummy beaver cake and hope her ds has a lovely birthday.

BosomForAPillow · 06/02/2010 19:46

Definitely go with KurriKurri's idea and fashion a small realistic beaver out of fondant icing. Then please post photos on your profile.

aoyama · 06/02/2010 19:48

KurriKurri, if by "you" you mean me then sadly no. I'm more of a lots of buttercream and use your imagination type of cake decorator. I thought some enterprising person might have put some sugarpaste ones on ebay but it seems not. They are all making flowers, hearts and butterflys rather than giant rodents. There is obviously a gap in the market. I had no trouble last year getting sugarpaste penguins.

beaver cake

SoupDragon · 06/02/2010 19:51

Good lord, my "I want a small beaver" thread went straight to smut.

aoyama · 06/02/2010 19:51

Flightattendent, I am seriously considering the moose . They have a guinea pig which would be good if you could disguise the lack of tail.

OP posts:
onepieceoflollipop · 06/02/2010 19:51

The tail on that is fab cocolepew.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2010 19:53

My thread is here. There were several on Ebay but were too big for my requirements.

SoupDragon · 06/02/2010 19:54

that is a fantastic beaver cake!
