aseriouslyblondemoment · 06/02/2010 15:39

I just make a normal sponge mix and use a loaf tin - so cream together 8oz butter and 8oz sugar, beat in 4 eggs, sieve in 8oz SR flour and mix together with 1 tbsp vanilla extract.

Separate mixture into 2 bowls, into 1 bowl add a couple of tablespoons of cocoa powder, mix well. Spoon alternate measures of the two mixtures into the greased tin and swirl to get your marble effect. Bake at 180 degrees C for about 35-40 minutes (depends on your oven). Done!

thankyou
out of interest boardbunny have you ever iced it?
just curious as it would be nice to have another choice of sponge for celebration type cakes

I sometimes put melted chocolate on top so not icing as such but no reason why you couldn't ice it.

This cake talk is making me hungry I might have to go bake!

I have used THIS recipe a few times and it works well.

It works just as well in a 2lb loaf tin as a round tin.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 06/02/2010 16:35

thanks stirling
that's the one i've got saved so on your recommendation will give it a go next week

I made a marble cake when I was 12 or so and used serious amounts of food colouring - it looked fabulous (well I thought so!) and I even iced it so the colours where a bit of a surprise... Turquoise and purple, IIRC.
