Any nice recipes/uses for either folks? All sensible suggestions considered Not the ubiquitous leek and potato soup though please - I'm fed up of that.
Thank you

Leeks au gratin: par-boil trimmed leeks (trim to fit your gratin dish - I do 4 inch lengths), then cover in nutmeggy white sauce made with part of the leek water, cover with breadcrumbs and/or cheese and grill till browned.

Sauteed leeks: saute sliced leeks in butter, add pepper and nutmeg.

Lentil salad: add spicy vinaigrette to cooked lentils along with a diced tomato and spring onions.

leeks I just saute with butter and top with grated cheese - have recently started adding the cheese to the pan for a minute to slightly melt it.
I didn't discover leeks until recently (couple of years ago) and I would happily have a comfort meal of the above.

what kind of lentils?

Leek tart with garlic and cheese is lovely, especially with stilton cheese.

Leek pizza is also very nice. Obviously for the tart and pizza you need to sautee the leeks first till soft

or sautee the leeks and add them to mashed potato and use to make a lovely shepherd's pie.

Leeks, similar to the au gratin recipe, but saute them a mixture of butter and white wine and garlic, ditto some mushrooms, then use the liquid to make a sauce, add a bit of cream, some half-cooked pasta, loads of cheese.

Pasta (small bits) and lentils with loads of cheese surprisingly nice, one off dd's favourites. (soupy sort of consistency)

Leeks - saute in butter then make a cheese sauce for them and have them on baked potatoes. Or saute in butter than mash with the potato flesh and some cheese before baking them a bit again to go brown.

Lovely in a risotto with peas.

Good in soup - I made a nice one recently with leeks, carrots, potatoes and pearl barley.

Lentils - red ones? Good in soup or chilli. Or make dhal.

Thanks all

The BIG lentil glut is of the yellow split pea variety. Somehow, they don't quite seem to cut the mustard for dhal - unless my recipe is crap. I'd meant to buy the yellow oily kind (which make lush dhal) but grabbed the wrong packet. Now they're sat staring balefully from the jar & they're starting to annoy me
