I have just peeled a whole butternut squash for a slow cooker recipe before realising that i only need about a third of i. If i keep what I don't need whole and wrap it in clingflim perhaps and put it in the fridge, how long might it last for do you think? I could use it on wednesday but I have other foods I need to use up between now and then.

TIA

I've just eaten one with my roast dinner, than I bought and peeled nearly 3 weeks ago! It's been in the fridge tightly wrapped in clingfilm and it was fine.

Still here!

thanks mml . The squash will have to keep now because the lamb tagine that I made for tonight will do us all for tomorrow night too! So everything else on the 'menu' has been put back a day! See, look what happens when i get organised and do a menu for the week - it all goes to pot on day one

I had one that went off I'm not sure how long it had been in the fridge, at least 10 days. There were small spots of blue green mould on it, easy enough to see. I'd not bothered to wrap it up though which can't have helped.

I'm sure a few days will be fine though

I'm hopeless with planned menus too, always go astray at the beginning of the week! The I forget to allow a night to eat up all the leftover half portions of things too. Lucky we've got a dog dustbin

You could always cook it and freeze it.

it gets worse! I've just been preparing tonight's dinner and have bought too many sweet potatoes so it looks like butternut squash and sweet potato soup for the freezer. Recipe anyone??
