My son's best friend is wheat intolerant. I want to invite him to tea and also to birthday parties without him fgeeling left out. Does anyone have any god ideas for cooking without wheat? Particularly baked goods? Thanks!

I just did a party and tried to make everything gluten-free. For cakes I did

hazelnut and quinoa cake

and a chocolate cheese cake using bought gf cookies, and a Malaysian pudding.

For savouries I did curry and Chinese food and roll-your-own sushi. As long as you get gluten- and wheat-free soya sauce it's quite easy, really.

First time cooking a cheese cake. Shocking what goes in it. It's a heart-attack waiting to happen, isn't it?

My family is as wheat free as poss. it makes the old man fat and very grumpy and stops my digestive system dead, say no more!! I use rice flour for sauces and pancakes which have been judged better than wheat!! I also bake bread and cakes with Kamut flour which is fantastic. You can use the normal wheat recipes but you may need to use more liquid than is stipulated.
it is amazing what is sold in the better shops now in place of wheat; you can buy pasta, noodles etc. be careful with the proprietary brand gluten free flour and cookies etc. 'cos they have potato flour in them which I try to
avoid.
To change the subject did you know that soft/silken tufu can be substituted for cheese in the cheesecake it's delicious and much healthier of course. I'll post the recipe if anyone's interested.

Also buckwheat pancake, popcorn.

I love tofu but wouldn't put it in a cheesecake ... It's a psychological thing, probably cultural, just like I've never been able to make myself eat rice pudding...

Hello BakuMum, hope you are well.

I actually have a friend who is wheat intolerant and she uses this website regularly, not just for recipes but also for helpful tips.

Hope this helps and let me know what you think.

Thanks for all the tips, and the webiste is great, Amy. I'd love the tofu cheese cake recipe, ppeatfruit!
I'll let you know how I get on. Might be inspired by your wheat free family to try it myself as I too have a grumpy and fat DP....
