Freeze on the Day of Purchase ?

Just wondering ...

If you buy a refridgerated product (eg sausages), that has "Freeze on the Day of Purchase" on it - but if you decided to freeze it a couple of days later, (but before the best before date) - would this be OK ?

Not advocating it but I have done it loads of times when plans have changed with no ill effects. Obviously you have lost two days freshness but since I normally use immediately on defrost I don't worry too much about it.

Again, done it and all ok

Can't see why it should be a problem at all. We bung things in the freezer when it's clear we're not going to cook them.

it's fine - it's just that they'll last longer in the freezer the earlier you freeze them.

After all, what about the person who purchased another pack of sausages from the same batch two days later?

agree with everyone it should be fine.

I do it too if our plans change.

Well I buy loads of stuff, particularly meat when it is reduced as the sell buy date is up. This goes in the freezer then. Also I often forget something in the fridge and freeze it when the date runs out. I assumed it was normal practice!

I do it too.

I wondered a similar thing a couple of days ago when cooking something which had not reached its sell-by date but which said "eat within 24 hours of purchase" on the packet. I reckon they're just covering themselves because of the changes of temperature that your shopping goes through on being transferred to your house, stored in your fridge which may be less reliable than the supermarket ones etc. Anyway, I'd had it in the fridge for 3 days and am not dead yet!
