Any ideas for an afternoon tea?

So, it's Dh's birthday on Sunday and he is a huge cake fan. We are going to the pub out for lunch with some friends and all the kiddies, then coming back to our house for cake. I am going to make a birthday cake in my new train tin (hopefully) and some rocky road. Any other ideas would be gratefully received. I always seem to do the same cakes and would like a change for him and a bit more of a selection for our visitors. Thanks

I always do scones, and I always use the Nigella recipe which is great. With clotted cream & good raspberry jam, or (mine and Nigella's personal favourite ) clotted cream & black treacle.

Or I buy the frozen JusRol mini mini mini sausage rolls, brush with beaten egg and pop in the oven... like homemade but low hassle.

Could you do gingerbread men or something for children?

Depends a lot on how big a lunch you would have had and the timescales for when you'd then have afternoon tea. If people have had a big Sunday lunch and wine / couple of pints, then they probably won't need more than a slice of cake.

Hi. Thanks for that. I think I will do some gingerbread men and scones to put with the cake and rocky road and then leave it at that. I will google the Nigella recipe as my scones are never quite right.
Thanks

Mint & cucumber sandwiches- you cannot have tea without cucumber sandwiches.
