I Can Cook!

DS2 (3.6) has a huge crush on Katy from 'I Can Cook'... he thinks she's totally wonderful and is very keen to try her recipes.

Infuriatingly perky as she is, I do infinitely prefer her to that awful Big Cook & Little Cook, and I like the fact her recipes look like proper meals.

But has anyone actually tried making them? Do they work? Are they triple tested to GHI standards? Or am I about to waste a whole load of ingredients?

F*,that woman REALLY irritates me but my dd2 loves her,and the bit where she sings about what they did,I want to gouge my eyes out
I must admit the recipes look alot more 'doable' than BCLC.

Couldn't agree more, especially about the singing bit. This made me soften towards BCLC, if only to allow myself to watch it for comedy purposes... www.richardherring.com/warmingup/warmingup.php?id=572

Same here, can't stand when she starts singing luckily my hubby finds her annoying too Recipes are better than BCLC not great tho...
And she ignores the children if they say something she doesn't like... Not a fan of hers at all...

Oh, I had never watched this properly, must have been on countless times, as it is on after Show me Show me and before Something Special which ds loves so i leave it on for the 15 mins between those, then one day I was paying attention, and she started singing!! Very weird!

Also, cannot stand her little rhymes she always throws in! She also has a manic giggle thing going on!

Never tried her recipes though!

Pumphreydidit · 17/03/2010 09:53

I have tried some of them - the bread and banana butter pudding was lovely.

Sorry but I want to drown her in whale snot when she does that alarmingly evil nasal snigger.

And why do they not give the children bigger bowls to work in?

BadGardener · 17/03/2010 11:13

I did the cherry shortbread the other day from the recipe online - I hadn't actually watched the programme but dd had.
TBH I would have been better off using recipes I already use but adapting them, however, she is vg at giving you ideas for how to get dcs involved - eg I would have been chopping the glace cherries and it wouldn't have occurred to me to get dcs to tear them if it wasn't for Katy.
Am def going to try some of her savoury recipes.

I've tried quite a few of the recipes. Most have been really good. The banana bread is really good as it only uses 1 banana so I can use up that last one that is going brown.

But the pizza base was horrible. Completely tasteless and actually quite nasty. And don't get me started on the idea of grapes on a pizza. Yuk!

I like the idea of cutting things with scissors rather than using knives and we also invested in the grater. DS loves grating things, so much that I now have to find recipes with grating in just so he can join in!

I made the Honey Tea loaf and it's delicious. I use wholemeal flour to be healthier and add dried apricots as well as raisins.

My DS goes crazy for it and saves me having to buy those goodies bars!

Fish triple decker is lovely (although we used tomatoes instead of mushrooms and did dd's without olives). DD made that and the banana pudding last week.

MamaGoblin · 17/03/2010 22:35

I love her, but only until she starts to 'sing'. Who, WHO? thought that was a good idea, eh?

I like the rather old-fashioned way she has with the children - strict but fair.

It irks me that the poor wee things are never allowed to use even the bluntest of knives though - they have to rend and tear all their veg! I know, I know, mustn't show the watching pre-schoolers that knives are fun to play with.

I Can Eviscerate!

MamaGoblin · 17/03/2010 22:45

Sorry, that looks terrible. Not really a joke, is it?
