Online food shopping recommendations please!

In an attempt to be more organised and manage my food shopping budget better I thought I should try doing my food shopping online. Am thinking this will give me a better opportunity to plan, rather than aimlessly walking round the supermarket and am also hoping I will avoid buying so much unnecessary rubbish.

I have never done this before so wondered who you would recommend- I have the choice of Asda, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsburys. I am happy to spend a bit more if it means better quality, particularly regarding meat and fruit and veg.

But will I miss out on the offers in store? Will I end up with strange substitutions, bruised fruit and veg and a mountain of plastic bags? Should I just write a better list and walk to Sainsburys??

I started with Ocado, but it was always so slow for me, even though I know Waitrose stuff. Once I'd switched to sainsburys, my ordering is a million times faster. Just do the same lists each time and I save so much time.

And this from someone who passes Waitrose, Sainsburys and M&S food at least 4 x each day, so I've gone from shopping daily to only very occasionally.

This is amazing - I always use mysupermarket.com to do my shopping (which always comes from Sainsbury's in the end) and usually find Sainsbury's, Tesco & Asda much of a muchness for what I buy. Even if Sainsbury's comes out £1 or £2 cheaper I still go for it because I know the products better.

Ocado always comes out at least £20 more.

But on the back of this thread I've just sat down to do my shopping through Ocado, and found that if I actually select the items myself, and make sure I get all the 'Essential Waitrose' stuff, it's exactly the same price as Sainsbury's.

I wonder how many people have, like me, been put off getting it from Ocado because mysupermarket.com isn't comparing like with like?

i vary between sainsburys and ocado. sainsburys won't take it to my kitchen (but my boys will do this if food involved). Ocado stuff is slightly better quality and slightly more expensive i think. sainsburys do free delivery in this area on tues-thurs - so i sometimes use them if i'm feeling poor or want loads of non-perishale stuff. don't like tesco as quality bit iffy and delivery charges always seemed a bit steep - though i used them at the start. i'd use just one or two orgs as it takes a while to get used to their websites and sort out your favourites. bear with it if intially takes a while as its so much better than going to supermarket which i only do now to brouse for a few bits if i'm in the mood. sometimes you get strange substitutions - you can just reject these and if you get anything substandard just complain and they will give you a refund. you will get the offers in store and sometimes you get online only ones too

I do Sainsburys - I like their one hour slots. I think online makes it much easier to budget and menu plan (and get up and check what's in the cupboard!)

I wish I could give Ocado a go, though - every so often I get a free delivery code from them and they don't deliver here
