Cocnut milk at 8 months?

I quite fancy whizzing up some chicken with coriander and lemon grass with coconut milk for DD, aged 8 months.

(I'm aiming for her to be ready for her first real curry, chilli and all by 18 months, lol!)

Is coconut milk ok or does it count as a nut and therefore need to be avoided for a while for families with allergies, such as ours?

Coconut isn't actually a true nut, as far as I remember, so you should be OK on that front.

not a nut- ds is severely allergic to all nuts but fine with coconut. My dd, 7 months loves coconut milk and chicken.

Wonderful! I was looking forward to getting creative with a Thai style curry for her. Anyone got an existing recipe, or other ideas to put with it? I was thinking about lemon grass and coriander, and maybe a lime leaf and some bits of courgette for green interest.

I've just made a delicious fish curry with coconut milk for dd (7 and a half months)- yummy.

Fry an onion, add a small pinch of curry powder, steam some brocolli (and potato if you want).

Add the brocolli and potato to the onion, pour in the coconut milk or cream. Add cubes of fish (OI used salmon). Simmer until fish is cooked - about 10 mins.

I added cooked brown rice and made it into a sort of risotto. My DD absolutely loves it and has had no ill effects. I made sure that she had all the ingredients before, except the coconut milk so that I was only introducing one new food.

Sounds yummy, Littlefish. I hadn't thought of trying "real" rice yet, or of mixing cereals with meat/veggie dishes. I'll get some today and give it a go.

Have I missed something? Is there a reason why you don't introduce chilli before 18 months? I'm sure I've fed my 9 month old a bit of mild chilli. I'm always surprised at what he likes. He picked roast garlic out of a bowl of roast veg, and he loved the pickled ginger Hmm

Dd likes chilli. She has it in my medium chicken tikka masala. Dd is under 18 months
