Out of Date Smoked Salmon

Arrgh have been clearing out my fridge and have found a whole pack of unopened smoked salmon that has gone past it's best before date.
Its vacuum packed and the date was the 31st Dec, worth the risk or not? Would it be better if I cooked it in something? Just seems like such a waste to throw it out. Damn Christmas and my overspending!

I'd cook it

With tagliatelli or in a quiche or something like that

LIZS · 04/01/2010 16:58

agree - would still use it in a pasta sauce .

ilovesprouts · 04/01/2010 16:58

my dh says it should be ok ,taste it and if its not right chuck it out !!

Dumbledoresgirl · 04/01/2010 17:00

Well, I would eat it, especially if it is an unopened packet. Smoking is a way of preserving food, as is vacuum packing it so it should be safe. But I have just advised another MNer to eat condensed milk from a can 3 years out of date so my advice might not be worth following

Pssst: how can you have forgotten about a packet of smoked salmon? I would have eaten it in the car home!

If it's a "best before" as opposed to a "use by" date and smells ok I'd eat it.

lindsaygii · 04/01/2010 19:31

Absolutely. Eat it. It's fine.

ceb80 · 04/01/2010 21:16

Great, general consensus is to eat it! Yum!
Will hold you all responsible if I have the bobs and bits for a week after!

we got some out of date smoked salmon from MIL and we froze it. Defrosted a week later, DP ate it all and is still here ( it was a week ago).
