having a big BBQ on Sat and bought a tin of 3 bean salad. Obviously I'll drain and rinse but can't think of what dressing to give the beans. Any ideas?

Also any ideas of quick and easy desserts - wasn't going to bother as they never ususally get eaten but now DH and friends are moaning!! Thought abou putting out some tubs of ice cream, cones and flakes, also maybe a quicka nd easy trifle. Any ideas gratefully received!

Cheers!

put some celery and red onions in for bite, and use a french dressing

spidermama · 30/06/2005 19:33

...with lots of garlic.

I would just put oil and balsalmic vinegar or olive oil, lemon juice and fresh mint. The last bb I had I bought mini cornettos and ice cream truffles (dont know if you can buy those in uk though.

beans nice in cooked pasta and phaps a bit of mayo, like a pasta salad then.

How bought massive load of fruit on a tray (melons, strawberries, mango) for desert?

spidermama · 30/06/2005 19:39

Mmmmm! And garlic. This is making me hungry.

lunachic · 30/06/2005 19:43

grated carrot nice with beans too
vote for french dressing too !

Mum2Ela · 30/06/2005 19:46

like garlic do you spidermama? ;)

tassis · 30/06/2005 19:46

lots of fruit maybe?

pineapple, strawberries and grapes usually go down well

You could have a chocolate fondue (choc and cream) to dip them in

spidermama · 30/06/2005 20:24

Stop with the fruit. What happened to good honest chocolate cake? I have a dangerously delectable new recipe. More like mousse than cake.

calpopscalum · 30/06/2005 21:11

MMmmmm thanks girls!! Now to decide.... Might have to buy some more tins!!

May put the fruit out for the guests and hide somewhere with the choccie cake myself! Spidermama do you have the recipe PLEASE!!!!!

I do mine as follows:

Two chopped tomatoes
One chopped red onion
One can cannellini beans
One can red kidney beans
One can flageolet beans or cut green beans
Handful of fresh chopped coriander
Sprinkling of Lakeland's 'Good with Everything' seasoning
Pour over Paul Newman's Balsamic Vinaigrette to taste

Refrigerate at least one hour before serving.

Serve w/grilled ciabatta bread.

It's blatantly too late, but for next time, this is the best bean salad in the world.

Fry a good teaspoon of cumin seeds and a finely chopped red chilli in a bit of olive oil for a few seconds.

Add some chopped smoked bacon (rashers, or lardons, or nay smoked bacon). Fry til golden.

Add the drained beans (or lentils or anything like that), two or three finely chopped spring onions, the juice of one lemon, and heat through.

Arrange some mixed salad leaves on a plate, spoon over the warm beans and top with a spoon of soured cream, fromage frais or plain yoghurt.

Delicios!!
