my blender has died - what do I get to replace it?

My blender has finally given up the ghost - the base where the blades are started disintegrating spewing out bits of black plastic everywhere

Am now pondering what to replace it with - what I want to do is make milkshakes/smoothies, grind nuts/breadcrumbs/blend soups (although soup blending not a deal-breaker as I already have a hand blender)

Is there a machine which will do all that (and more?) happily or should I get a basic thing for smoothies, a non-electric grinder thingy for nuts etc and stick to the hand blender for soups/purees etc

If you're going to use it for all these things, it sounds like one blender would be a better idea than separate bits of kit filling up the cupboard. I prefer a stick blender, spice grinder and magimix, but I don't make smoothies which perhaps is the deal breaker for you?

I love my Dualit mini chopper blender thing - has like a mini magimix (but much easier to clean) which is fab for crumble topping, breadcrumbs etc, converts to be a stick blender, balloon whisk and hand blender too. Good all round.

ooh thanks - I like the sound of the Dualit thingy - are they easy to track down?

I got mine in John Lewis a couple of years ago. Think they should be widely available - try amazon, they can be good for things like that.

I've got my eye on this for when mine eventually dies. It's quite expensive for a blender but I don't have a food processor so this does a bit of both. Like the frother on it to for making frothy coffee or milkshakes. It also comes in different colours.
