Quail - how do I cook them?

Have just been given 6 quail. Never cooked them before and am not really much of a cook. Can anyone tell me how to prepare them? I am not in my own home and cannot really go and get a whole lot of fancy ingredients (death in the family).

Is there some simple way of preparing and serving them that it is not too fiddly?

You can just roast them as they are. Waitrose suggests 200 C for 25 mins (but test for clear juices as per roast chicken). They will be nicer if you have something to rub on them first - some spices or herbs or lemon juice, or even just salt and pepper and some butter. Keep turning them in the butter / juices as they cook. A bit fiddly to eat, but enjoy.

they cook pretty quickly
I find them a bit of a faff with the kids which is why most of mine migrated to the bottom of the freezer

you can stick something insode while it roasts such as an orange slice or a garlic

oh thanks so much. That doesn't sound so bad afterall. I'll see what I can find to put inside, marinade them a bit then.
