Kids ready for baking, recipe says 300g plain flour, 200g butter and 100g sugar. Only have self raising flour...will that do????

I woul just use it anyway. Don't seive too well or high. They will rise, but the kids won't care

it'll do
my mil uses SR flour for everything as she never has plain flour in - and she makes rather tasty cookies, it has to be said!

Thanks so much for replying
Do I really need to put the dough in the fridge for an hour to chill b4 rolling?

I think the chilling is to help the dough not fall apart when you roll, cut and lift out shapes. I made biscuits with recipe suggesting chilling the dough yesterday; beforehand the dough was v soft and I guess biscuits would have flopped when trying to move them. You could perhaps see if dough is firmer after 30-45 mins?

NumptyMum · 21/12/2009 15:00

can the kids plan their decorations during chilling time, eg make glace or butter icing?

eightsixandtwo · 21/12/2009 15:08

thanks..will chill for a bit then..meant to be little pressie for their friends!

30 mins chilling should be enough
wrap it in clingfilm while it chills in fridge and sue that time to get dcs to help you clear and tidy away the dough making stuff and get the icing stuff all ready

displayuntiltwelfthnight · 21/12/2009 15:16

use that time, not sue that time

eightsixandtwo · 21/12/2009 15:31

Thanks, dough chilling at the moment, children are getting the decorations ready!
