How long will my decorated cake keep for?

Probably a silly question but won't have much time next week for decorating the cakes

I am making my sister one for her birthday which is on Weds it will be sponge and have buttercream in the middle and iced with royal icing - if I make the cake and then deocrate it on Sunday will it still be ok on Weds?

Also I am decorating a Christmas cake my mum has made obv this is for Friday when is the earliest I can decorate this?

Thanks

Christmas cake you can def start decorating today. We did marzipan a couple of days ago and are doing the icing today.

if its a sponge cake i try not to do it until the day before its needed. x

thanks everyone

so should I marzipan it today and leave for a bit before I ice it or can I ice it straight afterwards, I've never done a Christmas cake before

Sisters cake is (hopefully) going to be slightly easier to do so I will have to try and fit it in on Tuesday, will that be ok if i make the actual cake on Monday and decorate on Tues?

Also after I have iced them would you just leave them in the open air or clingfilm them?

The christmas cake I am doing is going to have a christmas tree made out of findant on the tio so would be hard to cover....but I suppose I could make the tree and store that else where and then stick it on in the morning

Technically you are supposed to leave it a couple of days in between but I've done it one after the other before and couldn't tell the difference.

I put a large tupperware box over the top but if you are stuck you could put a tea towel over it.

I don't know about the sponge cake though.

you are welcome!
Just done our Christmas cake. Well, I let dd do it. It looks...... creative.....

the sponge will actually keep better once iced, so once it is made decorate it asap rather than making, storing, then icing.

Thanks MrsBadger was going to bake it in the morning and then ice in the afternoon I think or the day after at the latest

OhYouMerryKitten at creative, I am probably being a bit super anal about the cake as we are making it to take to my mum's (well decorating the one she has made ) so may have to make some xmas bun for lo's to ice
