Hi, I've never bought packet or tinned hotdogs before but I want to get some for my DD.(15mo. SHe loves sausages and all things swine. What brand is ok, not too high in salt etc and an ok texture? Thanks.

Can't you simply use a good-quality supermarket sausage rather than tinned? That's what I always use for hot dogs

We get the Herta chicken ones from Sainsbury's - they've got less fat than the pork ones but taste identical. I think all hot dogs have lots of salt... but if you mix them up with veg, rice etc (hot dog risotto is yummy!) I reckon they're fine once in a while.

She eats a lot of sausages and has issues with swallowing so I thought the texture of 'dogs would be easier for her to cope with. Will look in Sainso's next time I'm there. Cheers for posting.

If I must buy them, I buy Herta. Most other brands are vile, and avoid tinned ones like the plague.

Lidl do really nice German ones which are about 80 per cent pork and not too salty.
