What are pinto beans?

and can I use a tin of them instead of kidney beans in my chilli?

yes.

They are related to the kidney bean and often used in mexican cooking according to wiki

Think they would go fine in chilli.

yeah, they're just beans. They're not purple, though, so your chilli will look a bit wrong.

yay thanks! They looked similar on the picture (school tombola prize I think).

Them not being purple means I can con the short ones into thinking they are baked beans mixed in, and I can save my actual tin of baked beans.
