Looking for help to make dd's 1st birthday cake

Only decided today that I should make one and have to do it tonight as birthday's tomorrow.

I have a heart shaped tin and was thinking of doing a sponge decorated with fresh strawberries.

What would work between sponge and strawberries? I don't really want butter icing as it would be too sickly. I have some white chocolate, would that work?

Also, if anyone can recommend a cake recipe that would be great too.

TIA

Just realised it's Friday night- probably not the best time to ask!

I did a carrot cake for DD's first and a courgette cake for DS's first - I guess I was still pretending hoping to feed them healthily!

Would a cream cheese icing work on your cake?

white chocolate ganache (melt choc and mix with double cream, leave to cool overnight then whip, spead over cake and top with strawberries.

Hollyhobbie, those are far too healthy to be cakes! Thanks for the suggestions though.

COV, that sounds absolutely perfect - I wouldn't have thought of mixing the choc with double cream but I was aware that choc on it's own would be a bit much. Can't wait to try it out, thanks .

They're still very sweet and delicious though!

Happy Birthday to your DD, hope you all have a wonderful day!

COV, thank you for your advice - my cake was fantastic (by my standards anyway) .

I made the heart cake covered in white choc ganache, strawberries all round the edge, milk choc drops making another heart on other side of strawberries then wrote dd's name and a number '1' in the middle -discovered I'm actually quite talented at writing with a choc fudge squeezy thing!
