A non-alcoholic 'mulled' recipe please?

I love mulled wine at this time of year and could happily quaff it all day. Unfortunately my life and my liver get in the way, so is there a way of mulling something else that is equally tasty but without the hangover potential?

I was wondering, cranberry juice? Can't be too sweet.

We did this on Guy Fawke's night. Mixed up some orange juice, Ribena and lemonade, with lots of chopped up orange, apple etc then heated with a mulled wine spice sachet. DP added a bit of sugar/lemon juice somewhere along the line, but it was very tasty. You could try it with red grape juice as well, as that's probably closer to a wine flavour.

I might try that, thanks. Is it not quite sweet though, with the ribena & lemonade?

Mix half orange juice and half red grape juice and heat with mulled wine spices. Looks like mulled wine and tastes wonderful.

jemart · 11/12/2009 15:21

doesn't the heat destroy the alcohol then?

We did both traditional and non-alcoholic last week - the non alcoholic we just used grape juice instead of wine and put less sugar in.

No - the heat doesn't destroy the alcohol unless you boil it. And especially not if you add a kicker of Cointreau [groin]

jemart · 11/12/2009 19:14

ah good tip, must try adding some cointreau sounds yummy!

we just buy it from ikea ready made

friend makes a gorgeous mulled apple juice - she adds root ginger, cloves, cinnamon sticks and honey - proportions to taste. Really yummy , and if you want to give a kick brandy can be added.

You can buy non-alcoholic mulled wine from M&S, my Mum told me yesterday she bought some as an alternative for a coffee morning shes having. She hasnt tried it yet though so I can't tell you what its like!

Came on to say mulled apple juice but have been beaten to it.

Have never made it but am determined to do so this year.

Sorry but warmed up lemonade sounds blah!

Sorry to disappear, had a mad day yesterday...Thanks for all your replies. Like the sound of the apple juice. I'll give that a go, and I might try cranberry juice as well
