Delia's Chocolate and Sour Cherry Crumble

My friend is hoping to make this recipe for christmas.

The recipe calls for sweetened sour cherries, what does this mean exactly, as she can't find sour cherries anywhere, she found dried cherries in waitrose but we're not sure if this is right.

Can anyone help?
