What do you put in mulled wine?

I'll start you off:

red wine
oranges with cloves stuck in them

Cinnamon
Nutmeg
or
gingerbread spice

I sometimes vary with adding orange juice (reduces alcohol content as well) and sometimes sugar if wine particularly cheap and nasty dry .

brown sugar or honey
brandy

Mine is dead simple.

Bottle of red wine
500ml of water
100g of sugar
One cinnamon stick
about 5 cloves.

I can't stand orange juice or brandy in my mulled wine.

I do my in the slow cooker so that it doesn't boil.

So no-one has used star anise? I vaguely remembered it being mentioned once, somewhere, and I picked some up because they're just so pretty.

Buy a bottle of mulled wine. Add brandy. Chop up an orange. Voila!

depends on how civilised/outrageous an affair I'm after...

Trill you would put salt in it if you mistakenly thought it was sugar then wondered why no one finished their drinks all night......

The Swedish version Glogg is very nice....has a touch of vodka
