Has anyone tried a baking plank?

I was thinking of buying one as a xmas present and wondered if they were any good.

golly, they're very flash.

they sell them here in safeway for a few dollars, and they are essentially disposable. you just use them a few times and chuck them when you feel necessary!

not seen them quite like that - although it does look suspiciously similar to a plank i was served a steak on in somewhere in the netherlands...

they are quite expensive? i'm sure worth every penny, but i think i'll stick with the cheap version! not sure if available in uk. suspect not, as sil has asked for a new stock for christmas.

I can kinda get the idea of cooking fish on a wooden plank but wonder how on earth beef/pork/chicken would work without catching fire?

Do you put it into the oven or steam?
