Thats it basically. MIL and SIL visiting tomorrow with my 2 nieces (ones only 5 weeks old so won't be eating). I always make soup and fed up with it, but need something thats cheap, easy and comforting.

Any ideas?

Shepherd's pie, part baked crusty rolls and veg or salad. went down a treat with in-laws on Saturday. They didn't even notice it was vegetarian mince!

Or fish pie. (nah, too fiddly.)

Bangers & mash.

Toad in the hole.

Thanks for all the suggestions - have noted then down for future reference.
Thats a great site Snow.
Went for baked potatoes and lots of toppings in the end, allowed me to madly rush round cleaning the house while pots were in oven!

And made some shortbread with DS for afternoon tea - never made it before, so easy and very comforting on a cold day.
