I'm trying to cook 4 x 6" fruit cakes for teachers presents. I bought a Silverwood tin (like this).

Trouble is it won't fit in the baking oven of my Aga, although it will just fit into the simmering oven.

My recipes all say to start baking it in the baking oven for about 45 mins then to transfer it to the simmering oven for the rest of the cooking time.

What would happen if I just bunged it into the simmering oven?

WWYD?

It'd cook - but it takes a while. I do all rich fruit cake in the simmering oven.

I cooked a 6 inch round fruit cake last weekend and I left it in for about 5 hours. To be honest, it's my preference because it makes a lovely moist cake - and it's far, far harder to get it wrong!

Bung it in!

Pennies,

Just seen your post. It does actually say on the box that the Multisize is not suitable for use in an AGA, but there is a way round it. Please give me a call. I don't know if I am allowed to give you the 'phone number on Mumsnet, but it is shown on the web-site www.alansilverwood.co.uk

When I say, not suitable for use in an AGA, what I should say is that it works perfectly well in an AGA, but just needs adapting AND WE CAN HELP
