Not really Food but there is no Drink section on MN (what a massive oversight!)

Need to buy some lager for a party. Am on a tiny budget so am hoping to take advantage of an offer. Don't drink lager so don't know what's what. Asda have Grolsch on offer 2 packs of 15 x 275ml bottles for £14. Is Grolsch acceptable?

I don't think you can go too far wrong with most branded beers although DH doesn't like Bud (in case you were thinking of inviting him) and buying/drinking Skol, Heineken or Castlemain is reserved for wife beaters apparently. Carlsberg, Kronenbourg, Grolsch and Stella (my favourite, in case you were thinking of inviting me) are all well respected.

ImSoNotTelling · 27/11/2009 13:23

How posh are your mates?

I would have been more than happy with Grolsch back in the day! You want to avoid carlsberg/carling which are usually cheap but weak and nasty IMO.

IMO Grolsch perfectly acceptable mid range lager with reasonable flavour. Go for it

ImSoNotTelling · 27/11/2009 13:24

No no no!

Stella = wifebeater! Round here you ask for a pint of wifebeater

boolifooli · 27/11/2009 13:38

Ah, we clearly have a different demographic of wifebeaters round my way. I'd best not pop into your local anytime soon

TheHouseofMirth · 27/11/2009 13:43

Thank you! Friends not posh though some work in the Meedja. Grolsch it is then.

Supplementary question, if I may:

Party open house 2-6pm 22 adults, (10 of whom men). Will 2 packs of 15 bottles be enough? Obviously they'll also be wine for the laydees, soft drinks of the drivers and gin for the children...

they'll?! there'll

If you march in and order a pint of stella, boolifooli, everyone will cower

ImSoNotTelling · 27/11/2009 13:50

275ml bottles are those little ones aren't they.

I think it depends on how alcoholic your friends are. But even if not that alcoholic, I reckon you need to bank on 4 bottles per bloke. That would equate to about 2 pints each, which is hardly going bananas-style drinking. So looking at another box of it I guess - or you could mix it up with something cheaper not on a two for one?

I guess if anyone wants to go mad they can get stuck into the wine or kids gin

ItsAllaBitNoisy · 27/11/2009 14:12

Get more gin for the children.

And LOTS more beer.

ImSoNotTelling · 27/11/2009 14:37

Totally agree with noisy, stop worrying about how much the men will drink and concentrate on the children. There will be hell to pay if you run out of gin.

TheHouseofMirth · 27/11/2009 16:37

Oh, it's OK, I've got some Bourbon for them too! Though if we run out I plan on sending them all to the pub.
