MN courgette cake recipe

I made this cake from the MN recipe this evening. It was inedible - 3 out of the 5 of us could not eat more than one mouthful. The taste of the raising agents was overwhelming. The other two said "OK, but not one of your better offerings."

I was dubious about the large amount of raising agents, but followed the recipe to the letter - except for the walnuts, which are optional, and cinnamon, which dh dislikes. I don't think cinnamon and walnuts would disguise the strong baking powder flavour.

So, are the proportions wrong in the recipe, or do my family simply dislike the taste of baking powder and bicarb? It has a couple of rave reviews after all.

The baking powder and baking soda levels seem fine - You did use teaspoons not tablespoons didn't you??

I made a Netmums one once which was very tasty

What Stirling said - the levels don't seem excessive to me.

The Nigella one in Domestic Goddess is also v good.

Oh yes, definitely teaspoons! (Imagine! )

When you make it, does the courgette disappear? It was clearly visible as bright green flecks on paler green in my cake.
