Roast Ham

I am an Australian living in London, wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a ham to roast for xmas dinner - like we have back home?

Last year we made an attempt from Sainbury's but it wasn't the same. The meat was much less fatty / lighter in colour/ there was no fat to score on top?

Does anyone know what I mean / where I might buy a ham?

where abouts in London do you live? someone may be able to recommend a decent butcher

I live in Harrow, NW london - I think lots of the butchers are halal around here so wouldn't do them. So recommendations VERY welcome

Lilylu, try Hiltons butchers in Pinner (not too far from Harrow) tel : 0208 866 9075. They are fab and all of their meat is yummy. Give them a call and they should be able to provide whatever you need.

I always buy a massive one from Cost Co for christmas..boil it for an hour to et rid of the saltiness. Drain it...smother it in honey brown sugar and mustard and stud it with cloves and roast til tender.3/4 of the way through i take the rind off...leaving some of the fat. Then that goes lovely and roasted after being basted. When it is cooler i then put cherries and pineapple on sticks through the diamond scoring on fat. yummy
