Scottish Tablet Help Needed...

StirlingInDaHouse · 23/11/2009 16:33

I am involved with our school's christmas fayre and always do baking but I notice that the tablet always goes first.

I have never made it myself before but would like to give it a go.

Some recipes that I have found mention getting the liquid to a certain temp (sounds like making jam to me!)

Does anyone have a good recipe that isn't too tricky AND what sort of pan do you use?

Also, how long does it keep (how far in advance can I make it)?

Thanks

Try "www.scottish recipes.co.uk" their recipes are quite good and I make a few when I'm in the "need" of a good old pick me up

My mum makes fantastic tablet. I have tried a few times and had disasters.

I think the temperature is vital, and unless you know exactly what you are doing, a sugar thermometer is an essential piece of kit.

It keeps for yonks. Must be that wee bit of sugar that goes into it.

This is a good recipe.

I don't have a thermometer, have always checked if it's ready by dropping some of the mixture into a cup of cold water and when it forms soft balls then it's ready to come off the heat.

this is really easy. It much faster and uses a microwave.
