Urgent help needed, re. cooking Xmas pudding!

I've just made my Christmas pudding but I have got muddled between the size of my pudding basin and the amounts I used - I think I may have put a 2 pint recipe in a 3 pint bowl, I'm not sure. My question is - how much will the pudding expand when cooked? At the moment there's about an inch of space between the pudding and the top of the bowl - is that enough room for expansion or will it overflow when it cooks? I'm not sure how far to the top I should fill it... I need to cook it ASAP so any advice very gratefully received!!

An inch should be enough, doesn't expand that much.

Lovely, I shall steam away now then. Thanks Mary!

I just made my first one and have made enough for 8-10 so will have to make 2-3 puddings with it.
