Hi, I'll start by saying I'm a first time Mum so there will be more people on here with much more experience, but as no one else has responded, I thought I'd try to help, ahem!
Ok, my DD is 7 & half months and I tried to give her baby rice at 5 & half months and she hated it so I stopped and gave her (well) mashed banana and pureed apple just before she was 6 months old and have never looked back.
Your DC could have hit the 6 month growth spurt so that could account for being hungry.
There is a guide on the side of the Aptamil box regarding milk volumes to give babies which was what I used when I started giving DD solids and weaning her off breast (started college course and couldn't keep on top of the bf-ing).

As for wanting food on your plate, my DD did this from being 4 months and we just had to eat when she was asleep, or in shifts!

If you are worried then I would speak with your HV. Mine ran a weaning course which didn't give me much more advice than I read on here but it might help you.

Hope this helped too!

I started DD on solids by giving her breast (one side) then offering solids and then breast (other side) to finish just so she would have some patience to try different food and wasn't ravenously hungry.

I see no difference in offering half of formula before solids and half after and see how you get on. Once she got the hang of it I gave solids straight away.

I doubt he would turn into a porker and babies will use up any weight gain with crawling - I would think anwway and DD certainly lets us know when she's had enough!

Go on Annabel Karmels website for recipes, make a few, freeze in ice cube trays & just try a different one each meal. My DD loves the Hipp Organic Porridge for her breakfast.

I would love to have tried the baby-led weaning, details are on here but I'm a wuss!

Happy pureeing!

Chuck out the baby rice for a start. Vile stuff. You wouldn't eat it so don't give your baby it.

Give him proper food. If you want to go down the puree route then gie him cooked pureed vegetables, fruit and pulses.

Remember, baby food doesn't have to mean bland food. Awaken his palatte, don't be afraid to use strong flavours or add things like cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, cumin parsley and garlic.
