Yeah, it's alright.

It's still just a crumble at the end of the day, so if you like crumbles you'll like this.

Yep, love crumbles and am making it for a sweet-toothed friend who adores them. The fudge works ok then? Worth adding?

Anyone? Just dithering over my food order ...

I haven't made that recipe but I have made an apple crumble with toffee. Just chuck in any sort (Thorntons is yummy and easy to smash into different sized pieces) along with the apples. Leave some decent sized pieces as they go all yummy-chewy mmmmmm.

Toffee better than fudge then? What kind of apples would you use? Granny smith/braeburn rather than sweeter ones I guess?

I always use Bramley cooking apples, not sure why though! Also, never tried fudge (but may give it a go now) but I know that toffee works.

All I can get is toffees in bags on ocado - no slabs of toffee. Shall i go for the fudge?

Or Werthers??

Oh, yeah any old toffee does it, I've used werthers before. Just smash them up a bit (before you unwrap them) with a rolling pin to get a bit of variety in sizes.
I'm sure fudge would be fine but I know that toffee def is!

Thanks all I've ordered Werthers (embarrassing amount of prevarication but always nervous making something new to take to someone else's house)

Oh one last question - OK to assemble this the day before, then cook it at said friend's house?

Oh all right then WW

Made it with Werthers, used my mum's topping recipe instead of Gary's (but with walnuts in) and it was gorgeous. Thanks for all the advice!
