Slow cooker advice needed please!

I bought a topside of beef because it was reduced and I am planning to cook it in the slow cooker but.... I'm a bit stuck I have only used my slow cooker for doing casseroles but I can use it to roast some beef, yes? How long do I need to allow for each pound of meat? (think it's 2 lbs ish).

you will need some liquid in the pot. my favourite is red wine.

you might find it comes out more roast like if you brown it in a saucepan first.
