Easy toffee apple recipe (that doesn't include a sugar thermometer)

Dd wants to make toffee apples for Halloween. I was thinking of making toffee boiling condensed milk - as you do for banoffee pie, but all recipes on net are for that hard sugar coating and seem to involve sugar thermometers...

Would the banoffee thing work? Or does anyone have an easy peasy recipe that works?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

You don't need a candy thermometer to determine hard or soft ball stage of the toffee. You can read about it here

Wouldn't have thought the condensed milk stuff would set nicely on an apple. You could do melted chocolate and dip in sprinkles?
